Barrow Crossing

March 14, 2011

The Barrow Crossing is for disabled people to cross the railway line and get onto the platform to board the train. I was intrigued by the name: imagining people being ferried across the line in a wheelbarrow. However, it probably harks back to the time when Chippenham station was bustling and bristling with porters all ferrying luggage and goods ready to load onto the train or to despatch into Chippenham and beyond.
