One of the saddest things I’ve read in a long time was the description in this weekend’s Guardian magazine of a woodpecker trying in vain to make a hole in a metal phone mast.
It just seems to sum up all that is wrong in our world today.
Weird isn’t it? The artificial tree is much taller than those around it – so the signal’s uninterrupted perhaps? It means you can see it for miles before you get there, so it still sticks out like a sore thumb despite the disguise.
