Westonbirt Fungi
Westonbirt is currently displaying its usual Autumn finery. However, my visit there last week also revealed some fine examples of fungi. I was particularly struck by the mini toadstools peeping through the more mature ones.

I’m sure they’ve heard that joke many times before, but I simply couldn’t resist. Seen at The Festival of the Tree at Westonbirt Arboretum on Saturday.
My niece’s quiz sheet asked what the colour of these buds are. We couldn’t quite decide – how about you?

Tonight’s bonfires (and similar ones over the weekend) will be much more dramatic than this one I saw recently at Westonbirt. However, I liked the way the smoke picked out the light slanting through the trees.

I liked the way the shiny van was distorting the scene around it. It was quite hard to take a photo without my reflection in it though!
Yes, we did stop for ice creams – locally made within a mile of where this van’s parked and you can try before you buy if you can’t make your mind up. I had gooseberry and elderflower and NAH had damson. Yum.

A couple of weeks ago I published a picture of this tree over at Veg Plotting because it was the most spectacular combination of lighting, leaf colour and structure I’d found on the day. My intention was to focus on the tree and so waited quite a while for the family to move before I took the second photo shown above.
However, it’s the first photo I took within seconds of arriving at the scene which I actually published.
Do you think my choice the right one?

Green or Living Rooves are a hot topic at the moment. They add to a place’s biodiversity and are a good insulator. Of course the structure needs to be super strong to bear the weight of the soil and plants and only shallow-rooted plants such as sedums, grasses and some wildflowers and other alpines are suited to this kind of area.
The cafe at Westonbirt is the first larger-scale example of this kind of installation I’ve seen.
